Providing
‘inclusive’ activities demonstrates a commitment to equality. Providing appropriate equipment where these
activities can be practised with confidence and in a safe and secure
environment requires training. Through
its 'Training' arm Equal Adventure has developed courses
to ensure that practitioners can access this training at an appropriate level.
Module 1 “An
introduction to disability”
- A one-day starter programme that provides an introduction to disability and ‘inclusion’. It is aimed at centre managers, advisers, coaches, instructors and volunteers and breaks down some of the fears and barriers to ‘inclusion’, instilling confidence to encourage participation.
Module
2 “Working with disabled people in the outdoors”
- A two-day course that combines theory and practise. The programme is usually determined by centres and aimed at meeting their specific needs. It is very ‘hands-on’ with an emphasis on active learning, drawing on Equal Adventure’s extensive experience of outdoor adventure and disability. This programme would typically revolve around water and rope activities.
Module
3 “Training the Trainers”
- This programme has been designed for centre staff who have already covered the activities involved in Modules 1 and 2 and now feel sufficiently confident to take over the mantle of ‘Trainer’. Equal Adventure provides all the guidance, support and materials to enable you to cover the contents of our Module 1 programme - “An introduction to disability”.
